This policy covers theurbanrewind.com, The Urban Rewind trivia app on iPhone and Android, and The Urban Rewind: Sports on iPhone. When we say "the apps" we mean both. Most of what follows applies to both apps; the trivia app's ad section and the Sports section below say where they differ. It is written in plain English. THE SHORT VERSION

• You can play either app as a guest without giving us your name or email.
• If you sign in, we store your player profile and your scores so the leaderboard works.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• Purchases are handled by Apple and Google. We never see your card details.
• The Urban Rewind: Sports shows no third-party ads and does not ask to track you.
• You can delete your account and data at any time - see Account Deletion.

WHAT THE APPS COLLECT

If you play as a guest

You can play without an account. Your progress, your mics and your settings are stored on your device. A guest is still counted anonymously by our analytics and, if you see ads, by our ad provider.

If you sign in

You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. We use Firebase Authentication for this. Depending on the method you choose, we receive a user ID and, where the provider supplies it, your email address. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real email; that works fine here.

Once you are signed in we store a player record in Firebase Firestore containing: your stage name, your score and weekly score, your level, your mic balance, whether you are signed in, and the home city you type into your profile if you choose to add one. The city is something you type, not something we detect from your location. The app does not request or use GPS or precise location.

Your stage name, score and city appear on the public leaderboard inside the app. Your email address does not.

Playing and progress

We record game events so the game works and so we know what people play: rounds started and finished, spins, questions answered, levels reached, prizes claimed, and purchases. These go to Firebase Analytics.

Crash reports

When the app crashes we receive a crash report through Firebase Crashlytics, including the device model, operating system version and what the app was doing. This helps us fix it.

PURCHASES

Mic packs, trivia packs and the All Access Pass are sold through the App Store and Google Play. Apple and Google process the payment; we never receive your card number. We use RevenueCat to keep track of what you have unlocked so it follows you across your devices. RevenueCat receives a purchase identifier and your app user ID.

ADS IN THE TRIVIA APP

This section is about The Urban Rewind trivia app. (The Sports app works differently - see below.) The free trivia app can show ads from Google AdMob. Ad providers may use a device advertising identifier to limit repeats and to measure ads.

• On iPhone, the app asks your permission before any tracking across other companies' apps and websites (the Apple prompt). If you say no, you still get ads, just less targeted ones.
• On Android, the app declares the advertising ID permission, which Google Play requires for ad-supported apps. You can reset or delete that ID in your Android settings.
• The All Access Pass removes ads.

Where required, we show Google's consent form before personalised ads are used.

To measure our own advertising on Meta, the trivia app on iPhone uses Meta's app events kit, which tells Meta about installs, app opens and purchases. Your answer to the Apple tracking prompt is respected.

NOTIFICATIONS

If you allow notifications, we send them through OneSignal - things like a new daily wheel, a rank change or a reminder. OneSignal receives a device push token and basic device information. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.

LINKS AND INSTALL ATTRIBUTION

We use Branch for links that open the app or send you to the right store, so we can tell which post or platform sent you. On Android we also read the Google Play install referrer for the same purpose.

THE URBAN REWIND: SPORTS

The Urban Rewind: Sports is our sports trivia app for iPhone. Everything above about accounts, purchases, notifications, analytics and crash reports applies to it the same way. Here is what is specific to it.

Your account and the leaderboard

The Sports app uses the same account system as the trivia app: Firebase Authentication, with Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. You can also play as a guest. If you sign in, you have the same player record and appear on the same leaderboard. On top of what is listed above, the Sports app stores your Sports IQ scores (an overall score and one per sport) and the highest ring you have earned on your player record. Both are shown on the leaderboard next to your stage name.

Football Picks and friend pools

Your weekly Football Picks are stored on your device. If you create or join a friend pool, we store the pool name, your stage name, your picks for each week and your points in Firebase Firestore. That information is visible to the other members of that pool. Pools use points only - no money changes hands in the app.

The game schedule and scores for Football Picks are loaded from a public sports data feed. No personal information is sent to it.

Ads and tracking

The Sports app shows no third-party ads. The only ads in it are our own promos for our other app. It does not use your device's advertising identifier, and it does not ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Purchases

Timeout packs, Legend Packs, Locker Room games and the Season Pass are sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your card number. As with the trivia app, we use RevenueCat to keep track of what you have unlocked, and RevenueCat receives a purchase identifier and your app user ID.

Notifications, analytics and crash reports

If you allow notifications, the Sports app sends them through OneSignal. Game events and crash reports go to Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, the same as the trivia app.

WHAT THE WEBSITE COLLECTS

This site runs on Squarespace, which keeps its own server logs and sets cookies needed to run the site and the shop. We also use:

• Google Analytics 4, to count visits and see which pages people use.
• The Meta pixel, to measure advertising.
• The shop: when you buy something, Squarespace Commerce processes your order and payment and stores your order and shipping details. We see what we need to fulfil the order.
• The mailing list: if you sign up, we store your email address to send you updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• The Daily Five game on this site keeps your score and streak in your own browser's local storage. That stays on your device; we do not receive it.
• Embedded YouTube videos are loaded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may still set cookies when you press play.
• Amazon links: some posts link to Amazon as an affiliate. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon sets its own cookies.

WHO WE SHARE WITH

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services that make the app and site run: Google (Firebase, Analytics, AdMob, Play), Apple, RevenueCat, OneSignal, Branch, Squarespace, Meta (advertising measurement) and Amazon (affiliate links). Each has its own privacy policy.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Your player record stays until you delete your account. Your friend pool rows stay until you leave the pool or its owner deletes it; email us and we will remove them sooner. Analytics and crash data are kept for the retention periods set by Google. Order records are kept as long as we need them for tax and accounting.

YOUR CHOICES

• Delete your account and data: follow the steps on Account Deletion, or email us and we will do it.
• Turn off notifications: your device settings.
• Reset your advertising ID: your device settings.
• Leave a friend pool: inside Football Picks in the Sports app.
• Unsubscribe: the link at the bottom of any email.
• Ask what we hold about you: email ken@theurbanrewind.com.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your data, including access, correction and deletion. Email us and we will honour them.

CHILDREN

The Urban Rewind is made for adults who grew up on this culture. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email ken@theurbanrewind.com and we will delete it.

CHANGES

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
